Aqara Debuts at Canadian Tire: Smart Home in 500+ Stores

Aqara has officially landed in Canadian retail. The smart home brand announced on October 9, 2026 that its products are now available in more than 500 Canadian Tire stores across the country, marking its first brick-and-mortar retail presence in Canada and another milestone in its North American expansion.

The launch gives Canadian shoppers a way to see, touch, and buy Aqara devices in person — a notable shift for a brand that has mostly reached North American customers through online channels. For Canadian Tire, one of the country’s largest general-merchandise retailers, the partnership adds a recognized smart home brand to its growing connected-home shelf.

What Is Launching at Canadian Tire

The initial lineup spans smart sensors, security cameras, and access control — five products in total:

  • Water Leak Sensor T1 — Detects water leaks and sends timely alerts to help protect homes from water damage, one of the most common and costly household insurance claims.
  • Motion and Light Sensor P2 — Combines motion and ambient-light sensing to power responsive automations, such as lights that turn on only when a room is both occupied and dark.
  • Smart Lock U100 Kit — A keyless entry solution with NFC unlocking, designed to deliver convenient, tap-to-unlock access while strengthening front-door security.
  • Doorbell Camera Hub G410 — A connected video doorbell that lets homeowners monitor and interact with visitors from anywhere.
  • Camera G510 — A solar-powered outdoor security camera built for flexible placement with reduced reliance on wired power.

The mix is deliberate: leak and motion sensors address everyday home protection, while the lock, doorbell, and solar camera cover the security stack. Together they form a starter kit for a connected home that can be picked up in a single store visit.

Matter Compatibility at the Core

A key part of the pitch is interoperability. Aqara says the products support Matter, the cross-platform smart home standard, so they work across Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey rather than locking shoppers into a single ecosystem.

That matters more than ever as the industry converges on Matter as the common language for connected devices. For Canadian shoppers who may run mixed households — an iPhone owner with an Echo speaker, say — Matter support means a sensor bought at Canadian Tire should slot into whatever platform already runs the house. Aqara also calls out strong integration with Apple Home, historically one of its strengths, letting users bring compatible devices into existing Home setups.

Aqara’s North American Push

The Canadian Tire deal builds on Aqara’s growing footprint in North America and a broader strategy of expanding through both online and physical retail channels. Canada is described by the company as an important market, and the launch aims to put Aqara hardware within reach of households that prefer to buy smart home gear the way they buy everything else — on a weekend trip to the store.

“Bringing Aqara to Canadian Tire is an exciting step forward in our North American expansion,” said Cathy You, Aqara’s Senior Vice President of Global Business and Strategy, noting that the partnership gives more consumers a chance to experience the company’s smart home solutions through a trusted, widely accessible retail network.

Retail distribution is a crowded battleground. In Canada, smart home buyers have typically chosen between ordering online from Amazon or Best Buy, or picking up limited selections at big-box stores. A dedicated brand presence inside Canadian Tire’s 500-plus locations gives Aqara visibility that online listings can’t match — endcaps, packaging, and staff recommendations at the point of sale.

How It Stacks Up Against the Competition

Aqara is not the first smart home brand on Canadian shelves, but its positioning is distinct. Ring and Blink dominate the do-it-yourself security shelf, ecobee owns the thermostat aisle, and Philips Hue rules smart lighting — all available at major Canadian retailers. Aqara’s wedge is the sensor-first ecosystem: affordable, reliable sensors and controllers that tie a home together, now backed by Matter so they play nicely with those same rivals’ platforms.

The timing also dovetails with the industry’s Matter momentum. With Matter 1.6 features such as NFC-based setup and joint fabric sharing rolling out across ecosystems in 2026, a Matter-compatible lineup on retail shelves is easier for mainstream buyers to adopt than ever. Aqara’s bet is that in-store availability, cross-platform compatibility, and a low entry price will convert curious Canadian Tire shoppers into long-term ecosystem customers.

What It Means for Canadian Shoppers

The practical upside is immediacy. A leak sensor or smart lock is often a distress purchase — something you want today, not in two shipping days. Having the T1, U100, and cameras on shelves nationwide turns Aqara from an online discovery into an impulse and replacement buy.

It also lowers the trial barrier for the smart home curious. Shoppers can compare the feel of a smart lock or the size of a doorbell camera before committing, and Matter compatibility means the device should keep working even if they later switch voice assistants or platforms.

Aqara says it plans to keep building its presence in Canada, which suggests the five-product lineup is a beachhead rather than the full assortment. If the Canadian Tire rollout performs, expect broader device categories — lighting, climate, and energy management are natural candidates given Aqara’s global catalog — to follow on Canadian shelves. For now, the message is simple: Canada’s smart home aisle just got a new anchor brand.
