New Apple TV 4K (2026): $299, A19 Chip & Hands-Free Siri
Apple’s “Welcome Home” event on October 13, 2026, was dominated by the new HomeView smart display, but the most immediately practical device in the lineup may be the one Apple hasn’t refreshed in four years: the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. Priced at $299, the new box pairs an A19 chip with hands-free Siri, a Find My-equipped remote, and a significantly expanded role as a smart home hub.
Price and availability
The new Apple TV 4K is available to pre-order now through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app, with retail availability beginning Friday, November 13, 2026. Apple also offers it at $49.83 per month for six months. The U.S. price is $299, with regional pricing reported at €349 in Germany and ₱21,990 in the Philippines; German buyers get three months of Apple TV+ included.
Notably, Apple has simplified the lineup to a single configuration: 128GB of storage with a Gigabit Ethernet port. Gone is the tiered approach of the 2022 model, which launched at $129 for the 64GB Wi-Fi-only version and $149 for the 128GB Ethernet variant. Apple raised those prices to $199 and $249 respectively in June 2026, citing surging memory and storage component costs, so the new model effectively costs $100 more than the most recent top-tier configuration and $170 more than the 2022 launch price.
A19 chip, AV1, and a wireless overhaul
Under the hood, the jump from the 2022 model’s A15 Bionic to the A19 is the biggest generational leap the Apple TV has seen in years — roughly comparable, in generational terms, to moving from an iPhone 13 to an iPhone 17. Apple says CPU performance improves by up to 50 percent and graphics performance doubles, while the new chip carries twice the RAM of its predecessor.
The silicon also brings a dedicated hardware decoder for AV1, a codec YouTube and other streaming platforms have adopted aggressively to deliver high-fidelity video over less bandwidth. Older Apple TV boxes had to fall back to less efficient formats or software decoding; hardware AV1 support removes that bottleneck. Wireless connectivity gets a parallel overhaul: Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 give way to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, while Thread support for smart home networking carries over unchanged. Video output stays at 4K at up to 60 frames per second, with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos retained.
Hands-free Siri and the new remote
The most visible behavioral change is that the remote is now optional for voice control. Three built-in far-field microphones with echo cancellation let users address Siri directly from across the room — including mid-playback queries while audio is already running. Apple describes an entirely new conversational Siri experience: users can search for content in natural language, ask follow-up questions, and receive personalized recommendations. When paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, Siri can draw on personal context for requests like finding the documentary a friend texted about.
The redesigned fourth-generation Siri Remote gains Find My support with Precision Finding via a compatible iPhone, plus an audible chime to help locate it between couch cushions. It charges over USB-C. Apple says Siri AI on the Apple TV is launching as a beta in tvOS 27.2, initially in English.
Four-speaker surround sound
Home theater gets its first true multi-speaker upgrade. The new Apple TV 4K supports a four-speaker surround configuration using two HomePod speakers or two HomePod mini 2 units as the front pair and a matching pair at the rear. Apple says the box automatically detects each speaker’s position in the room and calibrates timing and volume levels without manual setup — a feature that lands alongside the new HomePod mini 2 also announced at the event.
Doubled down as a smart home hub
For smart home users, the 2026 Apple TV 4K is positioned as much as a home hub as a streamer. It functions as a Matter controller and Thread border router, keeping continuity with the 128GB 2022 model’s role in Apple Home automations. The new trick is richer integration with security devices: when a compatible video doorbell rings, the notification appears directly on the TV, with two-way audio and one-tap access to related accessories like a door lock — without interrupting what’s playing.
With an iCloud+ subscription, Apple Intelligence adds automatically generated descriptions of camera activity and summarized HomeKit Secure Video notifications, extending the AI summaries Apple introduced across its platforms. Apple emphasizes that HomeKit Secure Video footage remains end-to-end encrypted, and the A19’s Secure Exclaves isolate microphone data processing from the rest of the system; Siri AI requests can use on-device processing or Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, which Apple says stores nothing and exposes no data to the company.
Background: why Apple is asking more for the box
The $299 price is a tough sell in a market where competent 4K streamers cost a fraction of that, but Apple is clearly no longer competing on streaming alone. The June 2026 price hike on the old model foreshadowed this: Apple attributed it to rising component costs driven by AI data center demand, and the new hardware — A19 silicon, three microphones, Wi-Fi 7, hardware AV1 — is a genuinely more expensive device to build. By collapsing the lineup to one 128GB Ethernet configuration, Apple is effectively telling buyers this is the premium home hub SKU, not the budget streamer.
The timing matters too. The new box arrives alongside the HomeView hub, HomePod mini 2, and Apple’s co-developed Home Collection accessories with LG and Schneider Electric. Apple TV 4K’s new doorbell-on-TV notifications, four-speaker surround, and Thread/Matter hub duties make it the living-room anchor of that expanded ecosystem — a role the old A15 box, now four years old, was increasingly unfit for.
What it means for buyers
If you already own HomePod speakers and run an Apple Home setup, the 2026 Apple TV 4K is the most coherent upgrade Apple has offered for the living room in years: hands-free Siri, genuine surround sound, and deeper smart home integration in one box. If you simply need an inexpensive way to stream video, the $299 price — $170 above the 2022 model’s launch price — will sting, and nothing about this update changes that equation. The value proposition hinges on how much of Apple’s smart home vision you plan to buy into: the TV box now makes the most sense as part of the whole, not as a standalone streamer.
