Wyze Bulb Cam Pan Color: 2.5K Camera Light at $99.98
Wyze’s Third Wyze Week Launch Is a Camera That Screws Into a Light Bulb Socket
Wyze has closed out its Wyze Week product blitz with its most inventive launch yet. The Wyze Bulb Cam Pan Color, announced on October 22, is a 2.5K pan-and-tilt security camera and a full-color smart light in a single device that screws into any standard E26 light socket. Priced at $99.98 and available now at Wyze.com, it joins the Solar Cam and Battery Cam announced earlier in the week to complete Wyze’s three-launch October 19–23 rollout.
The pitch is simple: your porch light, garage fixture, or ceiling socket becomes a watchful eye, with no wiring, no drilling, and nothing to charge. “We wanted to make it easy to keep an eye on your whole property without calling an electrician or remembering to charge anything,” said Dave Crosby, Wyze’s CMO and co-founder. “If you can change a light bulb, you can install the Bulb Cam Pan Color. It’s seriously the easiest camera we’ve ever made.”
What Wyze Announced
According to the company’s October 22 press release, the Bulb Cam Pan Color combines two products into one housing:
- 2.5K video with color night vision for sharp detail day and night
- 360-degree pan and 180-degree tilt, with AI-powered tracking that follows people, pets, and vehicles on its own — no subscription required for the tracking itself (AI notifications and cloud storage do require Cam Plus)
- A full-color smart light putting out up to 1,100 lumens, with 16 million colors and tunable whites from 1800K to 6500K
- Separate Ambient Light and Motion Light modes, each with its own schedule, color, and brightness — so you can run a soft glow all night and still get a blast of brightness when motion is detected
- Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for smooth live streaming, plus integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT
The Light Is Not an Afterthought
Many combination devices treat the light as a token add-on, but Wyze seems to have given this one real thought. The 1,100-lumen maximum is bright enough to genuinely illuminate a porch or driveway, and the independent Ambient and Motion light schedules solve a real everyday annoyance: you no longer have to choose between a warm welcome glow and a security floodlight, because the same fixture does both on its own timetable.
The camera also syncs with other Wyze Bulbs. Link multiple Wyze color bulbs and they coordinate colors and schedules even when they are on different switches — handy for making a whole front-of-house respond to motion the same way. The telescopic design lets the lens drop below deep sconce lips and lampshades so the camera actually sees past the fixture it is installed in.
Storage and Privacy on Your Terms
One of Wyze’s long-standing selling points is subscription-free local storage, and the Bulb Cam Pan Color keeps it. It records 24/7 directly to a microSD card up to 512GB (sold separately) with no subscription fees. Cloud event clips remain available through Cam Plus for those who want them.
The privacy story is mechanical rather than digital: when you want privacy, the lens physically rotates into the housing and audio recording stops, then returns to its exact position when you turn the camera back on. That is arguably more reassuring than a software toggle — there is no lens to spy through when it is tucked away.
Installation: One Minute, No Tools
The screw-in E26 form factor is the product’s core insight. Outdoor cameras usually fail at the power step: batteries need charging, wiring needs an electrician, and solar needs sunlight. A bulb socket on a porch or garage is already powered, always on (or on a switch), and already positioned exactly where you want to see.
Trade-offs come with the territory. The camera only works where you have a standard socket, and flipping the wall switch off kills both the light and the camera — a behavior anyone with smart bulbs already knows. It is also worth noting the integrations list: Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT are confirmed, while Matter and HomeKit support are not mentioned — consistent with the other two Wyze Week launches, which likewise shipped without confirmed Matter or HomeKit support.
Background: Why Bulb Cameras Are Having a Moment
The screw-in security camera is not a new idea, but it keeps getting better execution. The category exists because it elegantly answers the two hardest questions in outdoor security — power and placement. Wyze’s version arrives at a moment when the company is clearly pushing hard on the outdoor front: the Solar Cam and Battery Cam announced on October 20 tackled the wire-free problem for spots without power, and the Bulb Cam Pan Color now tackles it for the many homes that already have powered fixtures.
The $99.98 price lands in classic Wyze territory — under the psychological $100 line for a device that replaces two purchases. Wyze says its products are now trusted by more than 13 million households, and the brand’s strategy remains consistent: pack flagship-adjacent specs into budget hardware and monetize the optional cloud layer rather than the hardware itself.
What It Means for Buyers
For anyone with a dark porch, garage, or side entrance, the Bulb Cam Pan Color is one of the lowest-friction security upgrades available: screw it in, set your light schedules, and you have 24/7 local recording with AI tracking and no monthly fee. The subscription-free microSD recording remains Wyze’s sharpest differentiator against cloud-first competitors.
The open questions are the usual ones for a brand-new Wyze launch. Real-world reliability — Wi-Fi stability through a metal fixture, the accuracy of the AI tracking, and how the telescopic mechanism holds up outdoors — will only become clear once units are in homes. And if you are invested in Matter or HomeKit, this is not your device: the confirmed integrations are Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT only.
Still, as the closing act of Wyze Week, it is a fitting one. Wyze started the week solving power with solar and batteries, and ended it by noticing that millions of homes already solved power a century ago — with a light socket. The Bulb Cam Pan Color is available now at Wyze.com for $99.98.
